I wanted to write these questions out for you to take away so you can refer to them any time you have a script through for an audition. Also, the moment you get a script, go through with a pencil and change all the stage directions from your character name to T'. Eg: If it says 'Charlotte looks out of the window', change this to - '1 look out the window'. We want to really delve into the character and step into their shoes.
Here are a set of really useful questions to ask yourself when preparing a scene / character. The more we can build the character, the more comfortable we feel in an audition. I know that sometimes we might not know all the answers to these questions (if we haven't been given a full script) so it's up to us to make a choice and fill in the gaps.
Who am I? (Name, Age, family, personality traits, where am I from? How do I speak? Move?)
Where did I just come from? (Before the scene starts)
Why was I there?
Where am I now in this moment? (Location wise)
What are my surroundings like?
Why am I here now?
What am I about to do?
What do I want in the scene?
Am I getting what I want in the scene?
If not, who or what is in the way?
How do I overcome this?
What do I expect or plan to happen?
What is my behaviour? (Am I nervous, pre-occupied, excited? What does that do to my physicality in the scene?
What is my relationship to the people or objects in the scene?
When is it? (Time/Day/Month/Year)
Is it cold / warm?
What makes this day different from any other day?
What am I wearing? And why am I wearing what I'm wearing?
What can I see / smell / hear?
This should really help with understanding the character and your 'want' / 'objective' in the scene:)
